“It was their coaching, knowledge, patience, and kind words that made my days go by quickly. They kept telling me it would get better, and it did.”
Facing multiple challenges after back reconstruction, Jo spent four weeks with us undergoing intensive skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. Driven by her desire to get back home on the river with her husband and dog, Jo conquered every challenge. Today, she encourages others by candidly sharing her personal journey.
"There were so many things to focus on with my stay: pain management, fatigue, and inability to walk and transfer myself. I was lacking confidence that I would get better. I did not want to be here. I wanted to be at home on the river with my husband and dogs, but I realized I was not able to do much of anything without help.
The staff have been unbelievable. If they had not come into my life when they did, I would not be going home.
The team worked together so well! Not only did they meet my physical needs, but also their encouraging words kept me going.
They lifted my spirits when I needed it. They kept telling me it would get better, and it did.
They would tell me I was doing the work, but that is not how I saw it. It was their coaching, knowledge, patience, and kind words that made my days go by quickly. I even heard these positive words and encouragement with other patients.
The CNAs, RNs, and therapists were my family and friends for the four weeks I was here. They reminded me daily of the progress I was making and encouraged me every step of the way.
Kathy from social services, Ann Gordon (NP), and those from recreation stopped by often. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of keeping my room clean, along with my laundry. Kayla (RN, Unit Manager) made sure I had the equipment that I needed at home upon discharge.
I was happy that my husband Dave was included in my recovery plan, making him so much more confident that we could do this at home together. The team was always working with me to gain independence with activities of daily living and walking. Preparing for my return home was smooth due to the communication and everyone's involvement with planning.
I will miss them all! I wish there was a way to show my appreciation in a big way. I want the staff to know that they made a very big difference in my life, and I will not forget them. The best way I can convey my feelings in a strong, positive, happy, and loving way in just two words is by saying…THANK YOU!
I will be passing the word along about the wonderful people I was able to get to know here at Dove Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls. Thank you again for everything!"
